Three people were killed and five others injured after a SUV left the roadway in Silver Spring early Sunday morning.
Montgomery County Police said the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east on East-West Highway near Washington Avenue when it left the roadway and struck a tree around 3:20 a.m.
Three passengers were found dead at the scene, according to police, one passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, while the other four suffered what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Speed, alcohol and passengers not wearing seat belts may have been factors in the collision, police reported.
Police identified the occupants of the vehicle Monday afternoon. The driver, who survived, was identified as Evelyn Martinez, 32, of Lanham. The three passengers who were killed were identified as Melissa Roxanna Argueta, 24, of Silver Spring; Cesar Alarcon Noriega, 21, of D.C.; and Yeny Karina Vicente DeLeon, 23, of Silver Spring.
Carlos Domingo Cartonga Flores, 25, of Silver Spring; Christian Johanna Ortiz, 23, of Silver Spring; Jaquelin Amarlis Funes, 20, of Silver Spring; and Oscar Catonga Fores, 32, of Silver Spring; were identified as the surviving passengers by police.
