Update – 3:45 p.m. Monday – A cyclist died after being struck by a truck near the Gaithersburg and North Potomac line, according to county police and fire officials.
Police identified the cyclist as Andrew Gerard Malizio, 60, of Gaithersburg.
Police said a Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission truck traveling west on Darnestown Road was attempting to make a left turn on a green light into the Shops at Potomac Valley shopping center near Washington Avenue when it struck Malizio, who was traveling east on Darnestown Road in the far right travel lane.
Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said the green light was not a green arrow. A sign posted at the intersection warns motorists to yield while turning left on green.

Responding officers and EMTs immediately attempted first aid, but shortly after the collision Malizio succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Malizio was wearing a helmet, police reported.
The driver of the WSSC truck was identified as John Phillip Kline, 52, of Hagerstown. Police said he immediately stopped after the collision and remained at the scene.
"This is a very sad situation and our condolences go out to the family," WSSC spokesman Jim Neustadt said in a statement Monday afternoon. "I understand our employee is very shaken by this. We have our own procedures to follow in such cases which include an investigation by our safety team, in line with MDOSHA regulations. That investigation is underway."
Police are investigating the collision and reported the driver remained at the scene. Police closed eastbound Darnestown Road between Quince Orchard Road and the Shops at Potomac Valley while investigating the collision.
