A task force comprised of officers from local and state police is focusing its efforts on alcohol-related offenses during the upcoming holiday season.

The task force officially launched Wednesday and will be concentrating on enforcement in areas known for a “high number of alcohol-related tragedies,” according to Montgomery County Police. Officers also will conduct sobriety checkpoints and check to make sure businesses that are licensed to serve or sell alcohol are following laws. The Alcohol Holiday Task Force will operate from Nov. 19 until Jan. 10, police said.

The task force is composed of officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police, the Gaithersburg City Police Department, Maryland State Police, the Takoma Park Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland National Capital Park Police Department.
