The developing area of White Flint/ North Bethesda became a little more bike-friendly Thursday.

County crews began installing a new cycle track on Woodglen Drive that extends from Edson Lane to Nicholson Lane. It’s expected to be fully complete in the next few days. The two-way bike lane is 8 feet wide and buffered by white plastic posts and delineated by road markings. Parking spots remain available on the road next to the white posts.

Bike lanes are also being installed on Security Lane, which runs perpendicular to Woodglen next to The JBG Companies’ North Bethesda Market. Striping was in place on Thursday for the lanes.

The cycle track is the first to be installed in Montgomery County. More have already been called for by public officials and bicycle advocates in other parts of the county to make urban areas more bike accessible. At the beginning of October, county transportation officials outlined a plan to install a similar cycle track on Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda.
