The Dallas nurse infected with Ebola undergoing treatment at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda has been upgraded from fair to good condition, doctors announced Tuesday night.
Nina Pham, 26, who was admitted to a special isolation unit at the center Oct. 16 after being infected with the virus while treating an Ebola patient at a Dallas hospital, has expressed gratitude about the “countless inquiries and expressions of support” she has received, according to NIH.
Pham was one of two nurses who treated Thomas Eric Duncan, who later died from Ebola at Texas Healthy Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. The other nurse, Amber Vinson, 29, remains hospitalized at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
The Atlanta hospital has already treated three patients infected with Ebola. Those patients have recovered and have been released. The most recent patient was an unidentified man released from the hospital Sunday after being admitted Sept. 9.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and one of the primary doctors taking care of Pham, said during a press event Monday that he intends to walk out of the hospital with her.
