Weather – We’ll see fall weather this week with high temperatures in the mid- to low-60s and low temperatures dropping to the mid-40s at night, with the possibility of rain early in the week, according to the National Weather Service. There’s a 30 to 40 percent chance of showers tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday. Tuesday’s high is expected to be 66 degrees, with a low around 48 at night; Wednesday 57 with a low around 44, Thursday 57 and 47 and a sunny Friday is expected with a high near 62 and low around 46.
Early voting begins this week – Cast your vote early starting Thursday. Early voting for the general election begins Oct. 23 and runs one week, until Oct. 30 in Maryland. Local early voting centers include the Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center Social Hall at 4301 Willow Lane in Chevy Chase, Silver Spring Civic Building at One Veterans Place in Silver Spring and the Executive Office Building at 101 Monroe Street in Rockville. Two Nobel Prize winners to appear at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School – B-CC is inviting the public to spend Wednesday evening with two Nobel Prize winners—Thomas C. Schelling, who won the economics Nobel in 2005 and William Phillips, winner of the 1997 physics award. The event begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. It’s free for students and $5 for adults. Schelling, 93, is known as the “father of Game Theory” and works as a professor of foreign affairs, national security and nuclear strategy at the University of Maryland; Phillips, who works at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, won the 1997 price for his work on laser cooling.
Hogan to appear with Christie in Montgomery County, again – Republican gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan is scheduled to appear with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie this week for the second time in two months. Christie is scheduled to attend a fundraiser Tuesday morning at a private home in Potomac, according to The Washington Post. Hogan's campaign also announced Monday he will appear with Christie at The Original Pancake House in Bethesda at 10 a.m. Tuesday. This will be Christie’s second visit to Montgomery County in support of Hogan, who has been trailing Democratic candidate Anthony Brown by six to nine points, according to recent polls. Christie, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, stumped for Hogan at Redwood in Bethesda on Sept. 17, at a lunch event that reportedly raised $400,000 for the Maryland Republican Party’s Hogan Victory Fund.
Friendship Heights to be focus of citizens advisory board meeting – The Western Citizens Advisory Board is scheduled to meet Monday night to discuss shared issues between southern Montgomery County and its neighbors in Northwest D.C. Topics to be discussed include shared transportation and public safety issues. The public meeting takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the The Village of Friendship Heights, 4433 South Park Ave., Chevy Chase.
