Hilton announced Wednesday it plans to partner with Federal Realty to construct one of its first new “Canopy” concept hotels at the Pike & Rose development on Rockville Pike.
The 177-room hotel is set to open in 2016.
The White Flint location is one of eleven locations chosen for the new brand and will be one of the first developed in the United States. Others will be built in Miami, London, San Diego and New York, according to the hotel chain.
Features of the hotel include a main floor designed to create opportunities for guest interaction with a flexible dining space that changes from a morning café into an evening bar and amenities that cater to “today’s traveler.”
“For our business and leisure travelers, a sense of place matters,” said Chris Nassetta, Hilton’s president and CEO, in a statement. “Federal [Realty] has a proven track record of delivering vibrant, urban mixed-use neighborhoods that our hotel guests value, where they will be just steps away from chef-driven restaurants, new and engaging music venues, health clubs, theaters and other attractive amenities.”
The hotel represents another piece coming into place for Federal Realty’s Pike & Rose project, which this fall and winter is opening several new businesses such as the iPic Movie Theaters, AMP music venue and restaurant’s like City Perch Kitchen & Bar. The PerSei apartments are now occupied and nearby the Pallas apartments are nearing completion.
The hotel is part of the second phase of the development, which is planned to include additional office and residential buildings totaling up to 1.6 million square feet.
Federal Realty President and CEO Don Wood said in a statement he’s excited to have Hilton join the project.
“We share Hilton’s vision of meeting the evolving consumer demand for socially interconnected places that are authentic and culturally engaging,” Wood said. “Our mixed-use projects such as Santana Row, Bethesda Row, Assembly Row and soon Pike & Rose create new downtown districts within their respective communities where people desire to live, work, dine, shop or stay overnight.”
The hotel will be built by a partnership of Federal Realty and The Buccini/ Pollin Group, according to Hilton.
