Matuba Building for Sale in Bethesda

Promotional flier hints at restaurant closing, but manager and realtor deny it

The building housing Matuba Japanese Restaurant at 4918 Cordell Ave. is for sale.

Whether Matuba will remain there after the building is sold seems to be up in the air.

The restaurant has a sign posted on an exterior window saying it will be closed from Oct. 21 to 29. A manager seated inside the restaurant Friday said the restaurant is closing because staff members are going on vacation. He said the restaurant is not closing permanently.

However, a flier distributed by the real estate company Avison Young lists the restaurant’s building for lease or for sale. The flier offers a “rare plug & play opportunity to acquire a fully operating, free-standing restaurant in a high-performing location.”  It advertises the space as a restaurant with 120 seats including two sushi bars, second-floor office space and private parking behind the building.

Dan Gonzalez , the real estate agent listed on the flier, said the building indeed is for sale, but denied the restaurant was closing  permanently Monday.
