Chevy Chase Land Company announced Friday it has named Thomas L. Regnell as president and CEO of the local development company.
Regnell worked for 20 years for Washington Real Estate Investment Trust (WRIT), most recently as the development company’s senior vice president and managing director of the office division.
The news comes about six weeks after Chevy Chase Land Company’s board of directors ousted previous CEO David M. Smith, who was in the position since 2008.
Regnell has more than 30 years of experience in real estate management and development, including stints with Federal Realty Investment Trust and Spaulding & Slye, before his time at WRIT.
“We are delighted to have found an individual with the combination of leadership skills, deep knowledge of the Washington, D.C. area real estate market and expertise across all of the property types in the Land Company’s portfolio,” said Kate W. Carr, chairman of the board, in a statement. “We feel fortunate to have someone of his caliber to work with our board and management team and lead the Land Company forward to continued growth and value enhancement for our shareholders.
The 124-year-old Chevy Chase-based company is currently in the midst of guiding a major redevelopment project in Chevy Chase Lake through Montgomery County’s planning approval process. The company owns several Chevy Chase retail properties including Chevy Chase Center and The Collection at Chevy Chase, as well as several office buildings in the District, Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland.
“I am honored to be joining The Chevy Chase Land Company,” Regnell said in a statement. “I have incredible respect for its history, and look forward to partnering with the board and our shareholders in leading the company in its next chapter of growth, and in particular fulfilling the vision for our Chevy Chase Lake properties with the arrival of the Purple Line in the next several years.”
