A doctor who was exposed to the Ebola virus while working at a treatment unit in Sierra Leone was discharged from the National Institute of Health's Clinical Center in Bethesda Tuesday.
NIH said the man suffered a high-risk exposure from a needle stick injury while working in the African country and was admitted to the center on Sept. 28 for observation. The doctor was put in isolation with a fever, but NIH doctors later determined the man was not infected with the Ebola virus.
The man now feels well and does not have a fever, according to NIH. He will remain in his home and receive temperature checks twice a day until the completion of a 21-day observation period, following the Centers for Disease Control guidelines, NIH said.
