The Tiger Woods-hosted event will take place at the club in between years at Congressional

TPC Potomac will host its first PGA tournament since 2006. The Quicken Loans National will make the course its home in 2017 in between years when it will take place at Bethesda’s Congressional Country Club.

Congressional has been the home to Tiger Woods’ annual tournament since 2007, but earlier this year the club’s membership voted to host the tournament on a bi-annual basis.

That means the tournament, which was previously known as the AT&T National, will return to the famed course in 2016, 2018 and 2020. But the decision left up in the air whether the tournament would stay local the years in between.

The Tiger Woods Foundation announced today the 2017 tournament will take place at TPC Potomac at Avenal Farm. The tournament will be the first PGA event hosted at the course since the Kemper Open in 2006.

“My foundation is deeply committed to the D.C. area with our three learning centers and Earl Woods Scholarship Program students,” said Tiger Woods, in a statement. “We are excited to take the Quicken Loans National to another top course in the area that will challenge our strong field.”

The Potomac course has undergone extensive renovations in recent years to accommodate tournaments for the Champions and Web.com tours.

“We are very excited to bring a PGA Tour tournament back for the first time since the renovation,” said the course’s General Manager Michael Sullivan, in a statement.

The 2015 Quicken Loans National will take place at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va.
