“The National Blue Ribbon Award is a recognition of the hard work of our staff and students and the unwavering support of our parents and community,” Cashell Principal Maureen Ahern-Stamoulis said in a statement. “I am proud to be the principal of this school. We will continue to ensure that our students receive the education and support they need to thrive today and in the future.”

In 2013, more than 95 percent of Cashell students were proficient in math and reading on the Maryland School Assessments and more than 50 percent of students achieved advanced scores in math and reading, according to Montgomery County Public Schools.

Superintendent Joshua Starr credited the school in a statement with being an example of how staff can work in partnership with parents and the community to achieve results for children.

In addition to quality test scores, the school also has an integrated arts program that puts on several productions each year. The school’s chorus performed in April at the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, D.C.

Cashell is the 37th MCPS school to win the award, according to the school system.
