Council to review public financing bill – The Montgomery County Council has scheduled Tuesday the final reading of a bill that would put in place a public financing system for local elections. The bill would set up a system in which candidates can receive money from a public fund to run in the local primary and general elections. In order to do so, candidates must raise a minimum amount then would receive matching contributions for campaign donations that are less than $150. The idea behind the bill is that it could create a system where small donors have more influence in elections where large special interests often dominate with large campaign donations.
