Taste of Friendship Heights – Saturday – Village of Friendship Heights, 4433 South Park Avenue, Chevy Chase
Similar to Taste of Bethesda, this community event highlights the restaurants of Friendship Heights. Patrons can buy tickets to taste food from restaurants like Rosa Mexicano, Maggiano’s, The Capital Grille and P.F. Chang’s. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. and also features live music and children’s activities.
Biz Markie Dance Party – Saturday night – The Fillmore Silver Spring
Bring more than just your friends to The Fillmore on Saturday night for an 80s vs. 90s dance party with DJ Biz Markie. The dance party starts at 8 p.m. and will also include the 80s tribute band The New Romance and the 90s cover band Here’s to the Night. General admission tickets are $22.
Trucktoberfest – Saturday – Wheaton Triangle (Reedie Drive and Grandview Avenue)
Food trucks from D.C., Maryland and Virginia will descend on Wheaton Triangle Saturday as part of Trucktoberfest, which also features a craft beer festival. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and includes live music, a kid zone and a craft beer garden.
Be’la Dona Band – Saturday night – Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club
“The Hottest All Female Band in the DMV” will be performing jazz, pop, gospel, R&B, and, of course, GoGo when they take the stage at the Bethesda club Saturday night. The band’s musical director, Cherie Mitchell-Agurs, spent 13 years playing keyboard for Chuck Brown, the Godfather of GoGo. Tickets for the concert are $20 and the show starts at 8:30 p.m., although seating begins at 6:30 p.m.
Sami Yusuf – Friday night – Strathmore Music Center
British Muslim pop superstar Sami Yusuf takes the Strathmore stage to perform his signature mix of English, Arabic and Persian songs. The singer-songwriter is appearing for the first time ever in the D.C. area, but is a household name in the Middle East and described by The Guardian as “the epitome of cool.” The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $49 to $105.
Yellow Dubmarine – Friday night – Rockville Town Square
If you haven’t caught a concert outside at Rockville Town Square this year, tonight will be your last opportunity. Yellow Dubmarine will play their mix of “Beatles reggae tribute” at the free concert, which runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Dawson’s Market Stage.
