It was déjà vu all over again at the Apple Store on Bethesda Row Friday morning as more than a hundred customers lined up to purchase the new iPhone 6 the first day they’re for sale.
The line at 8:30 a.m. snaked from the front of the store, down an alleyway and behind the store.
Alfredo, Andrea and Miguel Ramos, of D.C., were near the front of the line with about 10 customers in front of them. They said they had been at the store since 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.
Alfredo Ramos, 36, said the uncertainty of when it will be available in the coming weeks led him to come and stay overnight for the highly anticipated phone, while Andrea said she still had the iPhone 4 and was due for an upgrade.
After I pointed out they were close to entering the store, Miguel said, “I hope so, I got to get to work.”
Carlos Juarez, of Takoma Park, was at the back of the line, behind the building. Juarez said he was waiting to get a ticket from an Apple employee with a time to come back to purchase a phone and then he planned to leave. He said he was only willing to wait about 30 minutes.
When asked why he wanted to get the phone today, Juarez said, “Bragging rights, maybe.”
The Apple iPhone 6 and 6s are the latest models in the company’s franchise line. They feature wider screens and more powerful hardware. Fans across the world lined up today to be among the first to obtain them, according to USA Today.
