We know Chevy Chase is a wealthy area, but the wealthiest town in the country?
A new Business Insider ranking of the most affluent towns in America found that Chevy Chase, Md., is the wealthiest town in the country, although it tied with Hidden Hills, Ca.
Both towns had a median income greater than $250,000, according to data from the 2008 to 2012 American Community Survey used by Business Insider. The two were the only places not to have a published exact median income. The third most affluent town, Short Hills, N.J., had a median income of $235,799.
Business Insider used figures for incorporated cities, towns or Census-designated places to determine the ranking. It appears the website used the median income of the Town of Chevy Chase, rather than the Census-designated place of Chevy Chase. The Town has a median income of $250,000-plus, according to ACS statistics, while the Census-designated place of Chevy Chase has a median household income of $157,802.
The Town consists of 1,041 homes, while the Chevy Chase CDP consists of 3,931 homes, according to ACS statistics.
