Rockville residents are preparing to gather video footage to tell the city’s story on Maryland Public Television.
The station plans to feature Rockville as part of its Our Town series, which highlights communities across the state in 60-minute documentaries.
Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton and city council are inviting residents to attend a Sept. 20 story conference to select themes, events, people and places to help tell Rockville’s story. Participants will also learn how to use handheld cameras provided by the station to record video footage for possible inclusion in the documentary.
The “Our Town—Rockville” documentary is slated to air in September 2015. Community members may collect video footage through May.
The series features local landmarks, points of interest and residents discussing what they like about living and working in their communities. Its first three installments featured Chestertown, Hagerstown and Cumberland.
Maryland Public Television presented the Rockville project at public meetings on June 14 and July 16.
The story conference will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Dr. Neighborhoods, businesses, nonprofits and students are encouraged to attend. City officials ask those interested to RSVP to ourtown@rockvillemd.gov, but an RSVP isn’t required to attend.
Updates about the production will be posted at www.rockvillemd.gov/ourtown.
