Week Ahead: Utility Work Could Slow Norfolk Avenue

Plus: Hot, humid weather expected this week

Utility work begins on Norfolk Avenue – The apartment project under construction at the corner of Fairmont and Norfolk avenues, 7770 Norfolk, is planning to make wet utility piping connections, which will lead to automobile and pedestrian detours for an estimated seven weeks, according to the developer. The works is expected to impact Norfolk Avenue between Fairmont and Woodmont avenues.

Hot and humid week – The start of school doesn’t mean the end of summer. The National Weather Service expects temperatures today to reach a high of 94 degrees with possible thunderstorms at night. Things will get a little cooler after Tuesday, with highs expected to reach the upper 80s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, according to the weather service.

Planning Board returns – The Montgomery Planning Board has returned from its August recess and this week will receive a briefing about bicycle planning, which recommends more cycle tracks for the county, particularly in urban areas. The board will also receive a briefing on what could become the county’s first cycle track, which is being proposed for Woodglen Drive between Nicholson Lane and Edson Lane in White Flint.

County Council returns next week – The Montgomery County Council remains on its August recess until Sept. 8.
