And so it begins. Federal Realty’s Pike & Rose development is scheduled to open its first new restaurant in mid-September.

Del Frisco’s Grille, which serves American comfort cuisine, will occupy a 7,700-square-foot space at the Rockville Pike development.

It will be Del Frisco’s second location in the D.C. area. The restaurant chain, which operates 13 locations nationwide, opened a restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., in July 2012.

The chain’s upscale menu includes salads, burgers, steaks, flatbreads, meatloaf, pork chops and more. The Rockville restaurant will feature a glass-walled wine room, floor-to-ceiling windows, dark wood, polished concrete floors and crimson and gold furniture, according to a company press release. The restaurant will also have a large outdoor dining space.

"The experience at the Grille is as much about the food and drink as it is about the vibe," General Manager Rahsaan Stone said in a statement.  "Our dining room will be exciting and friendly with great music. I hope it becomes a place where people can just get together to share good food and enjoy themselves."

The restaurant will be the first full-service restaurant to open in the recently constructed portion of the development. Technically, Starbucks, which is open at a renovated Mid-Pike Plaza building, was the first restaurant to open at Pike & Rose.

The opening is likely to usher in a slew of retail openings as part of the first phase of the development, which has been under construction since 2012. Other commercial tenants expected to open later this year include iPic Theaters, Roti, ShopHouse, Chipotle, La Madeleine and Summer House.

Once completed, the entire Pike & Rose development will include over 430,000 square feet of retail, 1,500 new residences, 1.1 million square feet of office space and a hotel.
