Make sure to plan a little extra time if you’re planning to Metro into the District this weekend. Metro will close its Bethesda and Medical Center stations on Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 1 for reconstruction work.

Local buses will operate between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor making stops at Medical Center and Bethesda, but Metro advises to allow 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop. Express buses will operate between Grosvenor and Friendship Heights as well and Metro says to plan for an additional 25 minutes of travel time.

The stations are closing for track work for the first time since Oct. 2012. The transit operator plans to work on grout pad, rail ties, insulators, joint elimination and communication cables.

Metro advised that commuters who normally drive and park at Shady Grove or Rockville may want to travel to Glenmont or Wheaton instead.
