The State Highway Administration is finishing up the resurfacing of Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, a process that could create headaches for commuters.

Starting tonight and extending into the late fall, SHA will resurface Connecticut from Western Avenue to East West Highway. Drivers should prepare for daytime and nighttime closures as part of the process.

The state agency plans to close lanes on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on weekends between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The work will complete a $2.5 million safety and resurfacing project that began last summer to replace deteriorated pavement on Connecticut Avenue.

“To date, crews have completed utility relocations, inlet repairs, curb and gutter replacement, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalk, ramp construction and roadway patching. Remaining work includes removing the top layer of pavement, patching, and resurfacing all traffic lanes and applying new pavement markings to the roadway,” reported SHA in a press release.

Approximately 46,000 vehicles use the 1.5 mile section of the road daily, according to SHA.
