Showers tomorrow, but mostly sunny week – Today is expected to be sunny with a high of 82 and a nighttime low around 69, according to the National Weather Service, but heavy storms are possible tomorrow. NWS predicts showers Tuesday afternoon, with heavy storms coming in after 5 p.m. and rainfall between half and three quarters of an inch possible. The rest of the week, however, is looking gorgeous–sunny with highs of 81, 79 and 80 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Woodmont Avenue to reopen – The section of Woodmont Avenue near Bethesda Row that has been closed for nearly two years while Lot 31’s public parking garage has been constructed is scheduled to reopen this week. A sign posted near the roadway in downtown Bethesda said it should reopen by Aug. 15. Ken Hartman, director of the BCC Regional Services Center said in an email last week that while it’s scheduled to open Aug. 15, it may be as late as Aug. 22.

Police remind residents to lock cars – Crime was down in July, with only one robbery reported in Bethesda’s 2nd District, according to 2nd District Commander David Falcinelli. However, Falcinelli said 123 vehicles were burglarized in the district last month and 88 percent of those vehicles were left unlocked. He asked that residents remember to lock their cars to deter this type of crime. “After almost three years as your commander,” wrote Falcinelli in a blog post about last month’s crime, “it is abundantly clear we cannot do our job without your help.”
St. Elmo Apartments meeting rescheduled – A reminder that the meeting originally scheduled for tonight to detail the latest apartment project on St. Elmo Avenue has been rescheduled to Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane). The meeting, will provide additional details about the 16-story building planned for a site between St. Elmo and Fairmont Avenues in Woodmont Triangle.
