The real estate blog Movato (which recently named Bethesda the second snobbiest small city in the country) has come out with another ranking this week that names Montgomery County as the eighth “best” county in America.
The blog pointed to the county’s high median income ($89,155), low poverty, high graduation rates and high percentage of postgraduate degrees as factors in placing Montgomery County on the list. Movato says it analyzed data from over 600 counties to create the top 10 list.
“It’s expensive, yes, but you’re getting a lot of great perks and a great place to live for that price tag,” wrote the blog about the county.
Montgomery narrowly edged out Frederick County, which came in ninth. But Loudon County came in first and Fairfax County was third, so according to these stats our neighbors in Northern Virginia are just a little “better.”
The blog used the following 2010 U.S. Census data to create the ranking:
- Unemployment rate (the lower the better)
- Median household income (the higher the better)
- Median rent (the higher the better, to indicate area’s desirability)
- Median home price (the higher the better, to indicate desirability)
- Percent of families below the poverty line (the lower the better)
- High school graduation rate (the higher the better)
