U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez and Gov. Martin O’Malley are scheduled to meet in Bethesda today to talk about a potential increase in the national minimum wage

Perez and the governor will tour Boloco, a burrito restaurant on Elm Street, and meet with workers at 12:30 p.m. O’Malley signed legislation this year that would raise the state’s minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $10.10 by Jan. 1, 2018.

President Barack Obama is making a similar push to raise the national minimum wage from $7.25 to more than $10 and also index the pay rate to inflation.

The officials chose Boloco, a fast-food chain with 22 locations in the Northeast, because it pays its workers a median wage of $11.50 compared with the $8.83 median for fast-food employees in the country, according to a press release about the event.
