Update – 12:10 p.m. – A trash truck caught fire and dumped its load on I-270 southbound north of Old Georgetown Road Wednesday morning around 9:40 a.m.

The right lane was blocked as well as the ramp from Old Georgetown Road for a couple of hours, but all lanes reopened around noon, according to fire department spokesman Pete Piringer.

The trash inside the truck caught fire, but was extinguished quickly by firefighters on the scene, according to Piringer. Firefighters then worked with State Highway Administration workers to clear the debris from the road.
