Strathmore Appetite Festival – Friday and Saturday – Strathmore Center for the Arts

Celebrity chefs, trendy food trucks and live music converge on the Strathmore Center for the Arts (5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda) on Friday and Saturday for a “gastronomic experience.” Purchase weekend or single day passes online or at the gate. Friday happy hour begins at 5 p.m. and Saturday’s festival events run from 11 a.m. until around 9 p.m.

The Shack Band – Friday – Rockville Town Square

The southern funk band is the latest installment of the City of Rockville’s Friday Night Live free concert series. The Shack Band takes the Dawson’s Market Stage in downtown Rockville at 6:30 p.m.

Glen Echo’s historic Spanish Ballroom (7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo) plays host to Philadelphia southern jazz group Perseverance Jazz Band for the first swing dance of the month. Arrive at 8 p.m. for a dance lesson. The dance begins an hour later. Admission is $18. Not interested in swing? There’s also a contra dance at the venue Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ($10) and a waltz dance Sunday afternoon starting at 2:45 p.m. ($10).

 

Harold Ramis Remembered – Saturday – AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center 

With the 2014 passing of comedic cinematic legend Harold Ramis, AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring) screens some of his greatest work starting Saturday with “National Lampoon’s Animal House.” Tickets are $12.50 at the door for the 8:20 p.m. showing.

Jackie Hoysted: The Candy Store – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – VisArts at Rockville

Irish artist Jackie Hoysted’s gallery at VisArts at Rockville (155 Gibbs St., Rockville) might look and smell good enough to eat. Her bright, enthusiastic paintings are in fact scented to play off the idea of “eye candy” and reflect on the human impulses of desire and craving. Admission to the gallery, open Friday from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., is free.
