A man previously convicted of a child sex offense in 2012 was arrested Thursday for exposing himself to an 8-year-old girl on a Metrobus, according to Metro Transit Police.

Police said Mario Amaro, 48, of Rockville, was sitting next to an 8-year-old girl on a Metrobus heading to Silver Spring on July 9 when he exposed himself around 4:30 p.m.

The girl’s mother later reported the incident to transit police and they launched an investigation. Two days after, the 8-year-old was on the same bus, this time with her mother, and was able to point the man out, according to police. The mother took a picture of the man and provided it to police.

Using the picture, police searched the Maryland Sex Offender Registry and identified Amaro. The girl was able to select him from a photo array, said police. Police later arrested Amaro at his Rockville residence.

He has been charged with indecent exposure, according to police.

Amaro was previously convicted of inappropriately touching an elementary-aged child in 2012, according to the Maryland Sex Offender Registery.
