Police released the names Wednesday of the two officers involved in a fatal shooting at the Capital One Bank on Arliss Street in Silver Spring.

The 3rd District officers were identified as Michael Damskey, an officer with less than a year of experience with the department, and Marcus Lee, who has less than two years of experience on the force.

Police said Damskey fired the shot that struck Donovan Bayton, 54, in the torso in the incident that happened just before noon Tuesday at the Capital One Bank at 8740 Arliss Street. Bayton was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said officers were called to the bank to respond to a trespassing call. When they arrived officers found a man later identified as Bayton acting erratically. Police said he failed to respond to officers’ instructions and then brandished a knife. It was at that point Damskey fired, according to police.
