Silver Spring Library Used Book Sale – Saturday
The Silver Spring Library will be selling used books at its 8901 Colesville Road location from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Hardbacks will be $2, large paperbacks $1.50 and small paperbacks 50 cents. The library is putting thousands of books up for sale from genres including art, romance, literature, cookbooks, children’s, biography and a collection of Civil War books.
Rumba Club – Friday – Rockville Town Square
Part of the City of Rockville’s “Friday Night Live” summer concert series, the DC and Baltimore-based salsa ensemble performs for free from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Dawson’s Market Stage in Rockville’s commercial district.
Climb4Life – Saturday – Carderock Recreation Area
Join the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation to scale the rock faces and trails around the Potomac River to raise money and awareness for the fight against ovarian cancer. Hit the trails starting at 8 a.m. at the Carderock Recreation Area at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath. Admission is $50.
Zoogazing – Saturday – Smithsonian’s National Zoo
A mobile planetarium from the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum will spend Saturday at the National Zoo’s visitor center (3001 Connecticut Ave., NW) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There’s also a scavenger hunt around the zoo with information about different animal-themed constellations. Admission is free.
Phillip “Doc” Martin and Friends – Saturday – Bethesda Jazz and Supper Club
Saxophonist Doc Martin returns to the Bethesda Jazz and Supper Club for the first time since his sold out show in January after the release of his new album, “Good Day At Work.” He’s joined this time by “classical soul” artist Chelsea Green & the Green Project. Turnpike Troubadours – Sunday – The Fillmore Silver Spring
The Turnpike Troubadours bring a unique brand of “red dirt” music — a bluesy country-rock — to Silver Spring with an 8 p.m. show at The Fillmore (8656 Colesville Road, Silver Spring). General admission standing tickets are $15.50 and available online or at the door.
John Hiatt and the Combo and the Robert Cray Band – Sunday – Strathmore Music Center
Hiatt and his band, “the Combo,” play tunes from “Terms of My Surrender,” Hiatt’s acoustic album released July 15. Five-time Grammy award winner Robert Cray joins in on the fun.
