Greenhill Development Application for Fresh Grill, Red Tomato Site

Community meeting scheduled for July 31

Correction: An earlier version of this post showed early renderings of plans posted to Greenhill Capital's website of the lot. Those drawings have nothing to do with plans for the site, according to Greenhill owner Lenny Greenberg. We regret the error.

The property owner of the shuttered Fresh Grill and Red Tomato buildings next to the new Bainbridge Bethesda apartment building is scheduled to update the community on a development proposal for the lot later this month.

The development application posted on the former BlackFinn building calls for the construction of 5,429 square feet of additional commercial space at the site. The pre-submission community meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 31 at the Bethesda/ Chevy Chase Regional Services Center.

Lenny Greenberg, of Greenhill Capital, the owner of the property, said there are no plans to redevelop the former BlackFinn building that's on the same lot. He said they’re still looking for a restaurant tenant to fill the BlackFinn space. He said the plans will "bear no resemblance" to renderings posted on Greehill's website showing what appears to be a three-story building.

Greenhill previously sued Bainbridge through a subsidiary company over structural issues at the current Fresh Grill building that resulted from the adjoining apartment building’s construction. Greenhill was awarded $3.2 million in damages in that suit. Red Tomato closed earlier this year after similar problmes were reported at its St. Elmo Avenue location.
