A new restaurant named after a well-known hotel sous chef was announced Wednesday as part of the renovations of The Embassy Suites at the Chevy Chase Pavilion.

The restaurant, Willie’s Bar, will take up 2,000 square feet in the hotel and include a bar and lounge area. The menu includes a number of small plates like beet salad, caprese salad, kale and artichoke dip, rosemary shrimp skewers and jerk chicken.

The restaurant is named after longtime hotel sous chef Wilfredo Benavides who died last year from Lou Gehrig’s disease. One percent of the proceeds from the bar will be donated to the ALS Association.

In addition to the new space, the current Atrio Café and Atrio Lounge is being renovated to increase seating and offer an improved banquet space.

All the renovations are part of the hotel’s $10.5 million in updates, which will include improvements to the lobby and an overhaul of the rooms.
