Lately most of the talk about development on Rockville Pike has focused on the area surrounding the White Flint Metro station.
But there are more projects just north, surrounding the Twinbrook Metro station.
The JBG Companies announced Tuesday it has signed three retailers to join two mixed-use buildings, Galvan and The Terano, currently under construction on both sides of the Twinbrook station.
Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, a popular deli that started in Delaware in 1976 and has since expanded to 14 states and the District, will open a 2,200 square foot restaurant at Galvan. Galvan is a 356-unit apartment building with 100,000 square feet of retail located just west of the metro station.
Joining Capriotti’s at Galvan will be Smashburger. The fast casual burger chain also has nearby locations in Bethesda, the District and Falls Church, Va.
The two retailers will join Ethan Allen Design Center and Safeway at Galvan, where JBG has now leased 80 percent of the available retail space.
Meanwhile, on the east side of the Metro station, Revolution Cycles has signed on as a retailer at The Terano. The regional company, which has four other D.C.-area locations, will offer bike sales and repairs at the new shop. The Terano will have 206 apartments as well as 33,000 square feet of retail.
Both buildings are expected to be completed in 2015.
Greg Trimmer, a JBG principal, said the company made the decision last year to move forward with Galvan and The Terano in Twinbrook, rather than press forward with its plans for North Bethesda II, in the emerging White Flint District. Trimmer said at a Monday meeting of the White Flint Downtown Advisory Implementation Committee that JBG plans to amend the North Bethesda II project to make it more focused on residential, rather than the original plan for a large office building at the site.
