25-Year-Old Dies from Injuries in Chevy Chase Collision

D.C. man injured when his vehicle struck a tree Friday night on Beach Drive

A 25-year-old man who was seriously injured after striking a tree in a Mini Cooper Friday night in Chevy Chase died Tuesday, according to Montgomery County Police.

Police identified the man as Malcolm Lawrence Gardner, 25, of the 4300 block of 14th Street NW in Washington, D.C.

Police said Gardner was driving southbound on Beach Drive in a 2005 blue Mini Cooper around 8:40 p.m. Friday when the vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck a tree near the shoulder of the road. Rescue workers transported Gardner to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, where he later died on Tuesday.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, but do not yet know why Gardner’s vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck the tree.
