A man attempting to enter his in-laws' home in North Bethesda set off two explosive devices outside the house early Sunday morning, according to police.
Marc Cassell, 36, was later arrested Sunday by Fairfax County police after fleeing the scene. Police said Cassell is currently involved in an ongoing divorce and custody dispute with his estranged wife, who was staying with her parents at the home.
Police said they were called to the residence in the 11400 block of Marcliff Road around 2 a.m. for a domestic disturbance call. The woman’s father told police he was awoken by several loud bangs at the front door. When he went to investigate he saw sparks and flames outside the front door and his son-in-law Marc Cassell attempting to force his way into the home, according to police.
Cassell fled the scene before police arrived. Police said they determined one explosive device was placed at the front door and detonated and another was placed near the home’s garage and set off. The explosives caused significant damage to the property, according to police. No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Police did not say what type of explosives were used.
Cassell is currently being held by Fairfax County police and is awaiting extradition.
