Update – 11:59 a.m. Thursday – The 22-year-old driver involved in a four car collision on Columbia Pike died Thursday and police have now classified the incident as a hit-and-run collision.

The driver, Marcelina Maria Cordoba, 22, of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring, died from injuries she suffered in the Wednesday afternoon collision. Cordoba's black Audi overturned in the collision.

Police are still investigating the events, but said a red Jeep Commander traveling north on Columbia Pike (Route 29) near Fairland Road hit Cordoba's vehicle while attempting a lane change around 1:15 p.m. Monday. The collision caused the Audi to then strike a Lincoln Navigator, which was also traveling north, police said. After colliding with the Navigator, the Audi overturned and struck a fourth car, a Saturn Scion, according to police.

Cordoba was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where she later died. The driver of the Navigator, Joselyn Nicole Gamble, 29, of Silver Spring, was also taken to a local hospital. Police said she suffered non-life threatening injuries.
