A fire broke out in the attic of a Potomac house on Farmbrooke Lane Wednesday night, which fire officials believe was caused by lightning.
A family of five was displaced and over $450,000 in damage was caused by the fire, according to fire department spokesman Pete Piringer. The fire was reported around 5:52 p.m. and firefighters worked for more than an hour to put it out. Crews rotated in shifts, drinking plenty of water to extinguish the blaze in sweltering heat, according to Piringer.
No one was injured in the fire, which began as thunderstorms hovered over the region last night. The occupants were able to smell smoke and leave the home when the fire started, according to Piringer.
