Cue more construction. Washington Property Companies broke ground today (Monday) on the $60 million Solaire Bethesda, a 139-unit luxury apartment building on Wisconsin Avenue.

The new building at 7100 Wisconsin Ave. is being built where Eastham’s Exxon Servicecenter previously operated. Washington Property Company bought the property in 2011. The building is expected to be completed by June 2016.

The apartments will feature nine-foot ceilings, large windows, wood laminate flooring, walk-in closets, granite countertops and “spa-inspired bathrooms,” according to a press release. About 6,400 square feet of retail space is planned for the ground floor as well as an underground parking garage with 86 spaces.

Building amenities include a fitness center, outdoor grilling patio and club room.

The Solaire is about seven blocks from the Bethesda Metro station. This will be third Solaire building constructed by Washington Property Companies. There are also Solaire buildings in Silver Spring and Wheaton, both near the metro stations in those cities.
