In Bethesda and Chevy Chase’s District 1 incumbent Roger Berliner holds a commanding lead over former at-large Council member Duchy Trachtenberg. Trachtenberg entered the race on the last day to register, forcing Berliner to hastily mount a campaign.

In perhaps the closest County Council race, in Silver Spring and Takoma Park’s District 5, Del. Tom Hucker holds a slim lead over former CNN producer Evan Glass. School board member Chris Barclay, who was plagued by a credit card scandal shortly before the election, is in fourth place, behind Terril North.
