A JBG Companies' representative said at Thursday night’s annual meeting of the Friends of White Flint that the development company plans to amend its sketch and site plan for the massive North Bethesda Market II project, possibly bringing it closer to reality.
Greg Trimmer, who oversees development for JBG in Montgomery County, said the company isn’t prepared to announce a ground-breaking yet, but he expects JBG to file the amended plans with the county in the third week of June.
The new plans will reduce the commercial component of the project, which features a 300-foot tower, and increase the residential component while maintaining the concept and architectural direction, according to a JBG announcement quoted on the Friends of White Flint website. The plan is for 4.4 acres near the intersection of Nicholson Lane and Woodglen Drive that’s currently the site of low-rise office buildings.
The proposal approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board for the mixed-use project includes four buildings housing up to 414 residential units and up to 368,000 square feet of retail as well as keeping an existing office building.
The 339-unit residential tower is perhaps the most architecturally striking of the new developments planned for the White Flint area. It features large, glass windows, and one boxy, sloped facade.
JBG is scheduled to host a community meeting on its amended plans on June 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Linden Oak Room at the Bethesda North Marriott.
