Two vans collided on New Hampshire Avenue near Oakview Drive Monday afternoon, injuring 12 adults, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.
Fire and rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said the injuries were minor and non-life threatening and that the individuals were transported to local hospitals after experiencing back and neck pain.
The collision occurred at 1:48 p.m. on northbound New Hampshire Avenue between Adelphi Road and Oakview Drive, according to Montgomery County Police. Piringer said one of the vans was carrying 10 people.
Police did not immediately know the cause of the accident or the ages of the people involved.
Four individuals were transported to Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, five were taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda and three were taken to Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park.
Two lanes on northbound New Hampshire Avenue were closed for about an hour while firefighters worked at the scene.
