Montgomery County Police have released a composite image of the man suspected of raping a woman on the Northwest Branch Trail in Silver Spring on Monday.

Also, a relative of the victim contributed an additional $10,000 to the reward pool, upping the total reward to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest of the suspect.

Police said a man held a knife to the woman, who is in her 20s, forced her off the trail and raped her around 4:15 p.m. Monday. The assault took place on a portion of the trail near Oakview Drive, police said. Police described the suspect as Hispanic, in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a medium build, medium complexion and short black hair. Police said the suspect was wearing a blue baseball cap, white T-shirt and black pants at the time of the assault.

Police said Tuesday they have increased patrols on park trails following the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 240-773-5070.
