Montgomery County is planning to add several traffic calming measures to Plyers Mill Road in Silver Spring after a community coalition described hazardous conditions on the road, including speeding motorists.

The measures include four new pedestrian crosswalks, additional signage, road reflectors, and a series of concrete bump-outs and islands that will narrow the road in some places.

Drivers often use the road to travel between Connecticut and Georgia avenues. The road already has multiple speed bumps and four-way stops approaching the Connecticut Avenue intersection in the Kensington section of the road.

Residents of Plyers Mill Road expressed their frustration with traffic on the road over the past year and set up a Facebook page to organize their efforts. A sign posted at a residence on the road reads, “Drive like your kids live here.”

In March, the county presented its initial plans, which propose traffic calming measures on the road near the intersections of Drumm Avenue, Maybrook Place, Brunswick Avenue, Douglas Avenue, and Saint Margarets Way.

The public has until April 30 to provide feedback to the project manager, Seifu Kerse, seifu.kerse@montgomerycountymd.gov. The map below shows the proposed locations of the measures. You can click on the icons for more information.
