The National String Symphonia held its inaugural concert on Saturday, March 22 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville. Professional string musicians performed in the symphonic orchestra under the baton of Dr. David A. Fanning.
The NSS’s 29 musicians hailed from around the Greater Washington area, including Bethesda, North Potomac, Garrett Park, Gaithersburg, and Silver Spring. Guests from around Montgomery County mingled in the lobby before and after the concert to the sounds of the harp, played by Gaithersburg's Abigail Palmer.
Founded in 2013, the National String Symphonia strives to preserve venerable and contemporary pieces by providing performances to audiences around the Greater Washington D.C. area. It is committed to providing affordable concerts – including offering a percentage of tickets at a lower cost than that of movie admission – to ensure that a growing, diverse audience benefits from this rich body of orchestral music.
