Small Bites: Bethesda Curry Kitchen coming to Cordell

Plus, Go Fish! snags a stall at farm women's market

Curry on Cordell:  As Table Talk previously noted, an Indian restaurant was reportedly headed for the space formerly occupied by Victor’s Pizza and Pasta at 4860 Cordell Avenue (see my blog, January 8).  Now it looks like it’s a done deal—a new sign for Bethesda Curry Kitchen has gone up, as well as a website (www.bethesdacurrykitchen.com).

With Kadhai just around the corner on Norfolk Avenue and Passage to India right down the block, the new eatery will make for a mini Indian enclave in the Woodmont Triangle area.

According to the website, Bethesda Curry Kitchen will feature the cuisine of both southern and northern India, with tandoor dishes, vegan specialties and vegetarian, chicken, seafood and beef curries.

The chef is listed as Anil Kumar, who learned to cook in the south central city of Hyderabad. No word on an opening date.

Go Fish catches a big one: Go Fish!, the popular mobile eatery that won Bethesda Magazine readers’ Best Food Truck Award in 2013, will be setting up shop at the Montgomery Farm Women’s Cooperative Market at 7155 Wisconsin Avenue.  At this location, owner Missy Carr will come in from the cold and occupy an indoor stall.

The 6-by-8-foot space, situated by the back door, formerly housed Canela Bakery.

Carr says she’ll be selling fresh fish, shrimp and scallops; ready-to-cook crab cakes, salmon burgers and crusted and marinated filets; plus ready-to-eat soup and lobster, shrimp and crab rolls.

She’ll also be taking orders for live lobsters, oysters and soft and hard shell crabs, which will be available for pick up at the market.

Carr said she’ll be up and running on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, starting sometime at the beginning of February. In addition, she’ll still be operating her food truck. “I’ll have to hire somebody to do one or the other,” she said, when asked about having to be in two places at once.
