UPDATE 9:40 p.m. Montgomery County Police believe the same man is responsible for a pair of PNC Bank robberies this week in the Bethesda area.
Major Crimes detectives are investigating a Monday afternoon robbery of the PNC Bank inside the Giant Food store at Montrose Crossing Shopping Center (12051 Rockville Pike) and a Wednesday morning robbery of the PNC Bank at the Wildwood Shopping Center (10211 Old Georgetown Rd.).
The suspect in both robberies is described as a black male, 30 to 40 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 inches tall and wearing a red jacket.
In both robberies, police said the suspect entered the bank, approached the teller and presented a note demanding money. Police said the suspect implied that he was armed during the Giant Food robbery on Monday. The suspect got an undisclosed amount of cash in both robberies.
On Wednesday night, police released surveillance photos of the suspect from the Monday robbery.
Wednesday was the second time in four months the PNC Bank in the Wildwood Shopping Center was robbed.
Police were called to the bank at about 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Officers surrounded Wildwood Shopping Center and brought in a K9 unit to help search for a suspect, similar to the scene on Aug. 16.
Police said the suspect on Wednesday also wore a Redskins scarf, black hat and tan boots.
