One in 88 children born today will be diagnosed with autism. Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC), based in Montgomery County, is one of the oldest and largest services providers in the United States dedicated to helping those individuals with autism overcome obstacles, reach their potential and contribute to the community with confidence.
On Friday November 8th, CSAAC held their 8th Annual Honors Gala in Bethesda under the theme “Winning for Autism.” Over 350 guests turned out for a night of Monte Carlo-style mock gaming, silent and live auctions, a seated dinner, open bar, music and dancing all hosted by CBS television journalist, author and long-standing supporter Mark McEwen.
Each year CSAAC honors leaders who strive to transform the lives of children and adults diagnosed with autism. This year, CSAAC presented their first-ever award for “Global Innovation in Autism Employment” to Thorkil Sonne of Specialisterne, which in conjunction with the global software company SAP, has launched a worldwide initiative to employ 100,000 adults with autism.
