Yes, there is such a thing as National Cheese Pizza Day. It’s today and a Bethesda pizzeria wants to take full advantage.
From 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, the people at Haven Pizzeria (7137 Wisconsin Ave.) will be giving away free cheese pizzas to express how “fanatical” they are about their coal oven-produced pies.
Haven Pizzeria opened in February 2012 with a menu of New Haven style pizzas, the thin, slightly charred and crunchy crusted pies cooked relatively quickly in an expansive old Italian bread oven.
The pizzaiolo, or chef, comes from New Haven, Conn., where New Haven style pizza obviously began.
The free pizza offer is limited to one pizza per person, dine-in or carry out.
