Small bites: Attman’s Deli opens, Max Brenner Chocolate Bar’s long haul

Plus, Bradley Food & Beverage is hopping

Pass the pastrami

Mazel tov! Attman’s Delicatessen, the Baltimore institution, opened its second location yesterday, July 8, in Potomac’s Cabin John Shopping Center & Mall. Owner Marc Attman said the renovation took about 10 months and he’s “happy with the results.” The restaurant is open for lunch, from 11 a.m. to 6:30, and will be open for dinner in about two weeks.

Chocolate meltdown

Restaurateurs have long complained that Montgomery County is not the easiest place to do business, and now Max Brenner Chocolate Bar seems to have run into difficulties, too.

Company CEO Sam Borgese told Table Talk that “although the project was well planned and permitted early, changes in some of the permitting processes caused the delay in opening. We’re working with the county to make sure we do everything correctly and properly.”

The chocolate shop and dessert bar, which was scheduled to open last month on Bethesda Row, will be up and running as soon as final inspections are approved, which could be as early as next week, Borgese said.

Get your growlers

Things are hopping at Bradley Food & Beverage, which recently became the first retailer in Montgomery County to sell growlers, the refillable glass jars that dispense craft beer. Co-owner Charleen Merkel was the instigator behind getting the law changed, a process that took about 18 months, and was remarkably simple, she said.

The store is now selling six types of craft beer, available in 64-ounce jars, but will be eventually carrying up to a dozen selections, Merkel said. The ultra-fresh beer is best if drunk within two days of opening, she added.

The shop is also undergoing a renovation, or a rearrangement of sorts. The two cash register stations are going mobile (with wheels) to allow for a more open area in the front of the store. Merkel said she’d like to move the growlers up there, as well as make it a place to hold tastings and display her vintage-painted tables.
