Plaza del Sol, the Tex-Mex and Latin American eatery at 4932 St. Elmo Avenue is now closed, after the owners were evicted. A locksmith accompanied by two Montgomery County sheriffs changed the lock on the restaurant door.
Tom Conley of Conley Management, which manages the space, confirmed that the restaurant is now closed, and up for lease. The owners had been in arrears on their rent, he said.
Bruce Sherman, assistant sheriff for Montgomery County, said that the District Court issued an eviction on February 6, 2013 and determined that the plaintiff was due $17,104 plus court costs.
Tony Marciante, owner of Chef Tony’s restaurant at 4926 St. Elmo Ave., just a couple doors away from Plaza del Sol, said he saw a locksmith accompanied by two Montgomery County sheriffs changing the locks on April 10.
“Unfortunately, it’s not a nice thing to witness,” Marciante said.
After the locks were changed, a sign on the door of the restaurant had read that the owners are “not able to access our phones or check our voicemail,” and that they “hope to be able to serve you again soon, once we have resolved matters.”
Now, there’s a “for lease” sign on the window.
