As soon as Sarah Burton, the creative director for Alexander McQueen, sent tortoiseshell accessories down the runway for spring, I was hooked. These weren't any ordinary tortoiseshell designs – these accessories had their own accessories – little gold bees to be exact.
In the months following, I've come across so many tortoiseshell necklaces, earrings, bracelets and clutches during my shopping excursions. I'm excited to see many of today's designs flanked with crystals and other metals, which creates an unexpected twist on an old classic.
